About a project

Sports lighting for the Goran Ivanišević ATP stadium

Every July, some of the world’s best tennis players come head to head at the ATP stadium in Croatia’s town of Umag. Top-level play demands professional lighting, in line with the strict ATP standards and the needs of modern TV broadcasting. We used cutting-edge lighting technology, which we integrated into the existing infrastructure and connected with the decorative lighting of the venue, to form a functional and aesthetic whole.

Challenges

High ATP standards

High ATP standards

A world-class ATP tournament with a tradition spanning more than three decades requires realistic and stable lighting on the center court. The illumination needs to be uniform, with adequate light levels for perfect visibility of the ball.

TV broadcast quality

TV broadcast quality

Due to the large number of cameras filming the matches for TV, we used lighting equipped with anti-flicker technology, which prevents image flickering in TV broadcasts.

Precise lighting direction

Precise lighting direction

Each floodlight was precisely adjusted using a laser, based on the technical calculations done beforehand, in order to achieve perfect visibility on the court, free of shadows and glare.

Integration with an atypical management system

Integration with an atypical management system

We carried out an integration which enabled the adaptation of sports lighting to the DMX management system developed by Lumenart.

Conection to the existing infrastructure

Conection to the existing infrastructure

The entire modern system of sports lighting had to be adjusted and connected to the existing electricity infrastructure at the stadium.

Outer courts lighting

Outer courts lighting

Lighting was designed for both the central court and the Grand Stand stadium. In outer courts 1 and 2 we implemented advanced modular lighting which uses a smaller number of floodlights and less power to illuminate both courts, while meeting all the ATP standards for uniformity.
